Do not buy a fake ID if you are worried about the consequences. Being found by police with a fake ID could result in anything from a warning to a caution to an arrest. Presenting one to misrepresent yourself for financial gain — or for something as reckless as renting a car — is the kind of conduct that typically leads to a criminal charge.
A record of any of these events can follow you for life, so proceed with caution.
The discussion below covers illegal fake ID — exact or near-exact reproductions of government-issued "identity cards" or "identity documents" as defined in statute. Only UK legislation is referenced here; other jurisdictions may differ.

The primary UK statute on identity documents is the Identity Documents Act 2010 (PDF), which replaced the relevant provisions of the earlier 2006 Act — the legislation behind the abandoned National ID Card scheme. Section 4 creates the offence of possessing false identity documents with improper intention, while Section 7 sets out what qualifies as an "identity document" for the purposes of Sections 4, 5, and 6.
Manufacturing, possessing, procuring, supplying, or uttering a counterfeit or altered state-issued document — such as a driving licence or passport — is a criminal offence.
The products sold on this site do not meet the statutory definition of "identity document" under any of the relevant Acts.
